I love it when I hear back from customers and they tell me their kid keeps talking about that one day on the water with Captain Devin. The survival of our culture really is all about the little ones.
“Captain Devin, why would you write about something so obvious?”
Because I want to help people, especially those out-of-state guests that spend their vacation time in our wonderful state. There is some confusion surrounding fishing licenses and I wanted to clear this up, for their benefit and ours.

My philosophy is that if one wants be a master of his craft, he must master the basics. One of the things I didn’t like about becoming a charter captain is the automatic brand that I know everything there is to know and that I do not need to learn anymore. Nay! While I certainly do my best, I still feel that everyday I have something new to learn.
So with that in mind, I decided to go “back to the basics” and write a post about basic terminology, so everyone is on the same sheet of music. This is going to be pretty down and dirty. If you have anything to add, then please comment and let us all know!

No, I’m not talking about the fishing reports you see me post on RodnReel and Louisiana Sportsman. I’m talking about my fishing reports containing every detail of my fishing trips. These are files I keep to myself, so I can fall back on that recorded information to enhance my fishing ability. They are set on an encrypted hard drive and backed up onto an Iron Key that will melt down if someone tries to steal the information inside. I joke that it is much easier to get my Social Security Number than it is my fishing reports.
This is something I take seriously. Know that this information is “close hold”! It’s top secret! I’m not going to give that information up, as I have worked hard for it. However, I do want to share with you what my report format looks like and how detailed it is. Here is a sneak peek of Captain Devin’s Fishing Reports.
I notice a lot of people don’t keep fishing reports. If they had something to use, even if it were just a simple format, then they could keep track of their progress and enable themselves to learn more. In the military, using after action reviews helped us see what we did in an action, what we needed to maintain and what we could improve upon. Keeping fishing reports is similar. It’s the key to success!
Look for an article in the future with details and pictures about my fishing report formats!
