Hello LA Specks, Captain Devin here! It’s that time of the year. The summer pattern is in full swing with fat speckled trout being caught in places like Breton Sound and Black Bay. While trout can be found just about everywhere, from oyster beds to gas platforms, it’s important to ensure you have the critical tools to succeed in your fishing endeavors. One of these tools is a classic and a long time favorite of mine: the Double Rig.
Find yer own fish!
Ahh…everyone’s favorite! There’s nothing like our winged brethren, screaming across the sky, hollering out to everyone willing to lend an ear that there be that blessed stock of the sea in the water below them! I am talking about seagulls diving on shrimp. These same shrimp are usually driven to the surface by a feeding frenzy of another popular saltwater denizen, speckled trout.

If you still look at tide charts in the back of the newspaper, then I suggest going to the museum and burying yourself with all the other dinosaur fossils. Perhaps you use tide charts online? Okay, you’re on the right track, but realize we live in the age of the Information Super Highway. There is so much more information readily available that you can see what the water is actually doing versus what it’s predicted to do. Jump-start your learning curve without spending time on the water. What am I talking about? Well, I am talking about real time data provided by the Shell Beach Buoy!
