Category Archives: Fishing Predictions

May is right around the corner…

That means it’s time for birds diving on shrimp and fishing the MRGO rocks for gorgeous trout (yeah…I just gave a spot away).

Anyways, be sure to prepare yourself and refresh your memory on two very important things: How to Run the Spoil Canal and Knowing When To Fish Diving Birds

Summer Pattern is in Full Swing!

It's hot out, but that didn't keep us from finding a load of redfish.

Summer is in full swing and this time of the year fish are doing very particular things that can only be associated with the hot weather. Knowing how the weather affects fish will play a huge role in your understanding of their biology and how you can use that to be an effective fisherman.

Quick synopsis on where we stand.

The high water we have had lately has brought in a lot of baitfish. I doubt it will bring in storm minnows as it is too early in the year for that. However, the high, clean water packed with baitfish has brought a good fish bite in closer and made redfish far more accessible.

The shallow redfish ponds you normally can’t get into have enough high water in them that you can access them now. This has made catching redfish a lot easier.

Now keep in mind that we have north winds predicted for the rest of the week. With the tide 3 foot above normal, a lot of water will be flushing out of the marsh. Take advantage of that falling tide, as it will position the baitfish when they fall out of cuts and flow around points.

Tomorrow….

is going to be an awesome day for fishing. The winds are finally laying down. The water level ought to come back up, the water ought to clean up and the trout will be easier to find. Once the water is up, it will be easier to get back into redfish ponds.

The trout. They are getting…bigger…

Sure, you’ve heard it right. The spawn is already in swing, but not full swing. I have been catching a lot of fat females with huge egg sacs in them.

(Please, disregard the ‘Bama hat….just kidding, Rob)

This summer is promising to be a good one for speckled trout and even redfish. I love the summer time! Lots of big trout that pull drag and give a good fight. Of course, they are also delicious!
